The Bureau of Indian Standards has come out with a draft standard which has been under discussion for the last three years but has still not been applied. The draft standard covers all carbonated drinks and not necessarily only those manufactured by Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. It defines carbonated drinks as, "beverages with carbon dioxide under pressure and may contain any of the ingredient singly or in combination as given at clause 4. This exclude the use of juice/pulp/concentrate/ extract of fruits and vegetables, honey, tea, coffee, milk and dairy products.'
