The North-east India Energy Summit 2008 was held in Guwahati on March 29. The Summit was organized jointly by the Assam Energy Development Agency of Department of Science & Technology, and Government of India Energy Forum, East India Chapter, Kolkata. The Summit deliberated on all the major issues which need to be addressed to explore the potential for development in the new and renewable energy sector in order to make the North-east India a viable and productive region for harnessing these sources in most efficient manner. The Summit was inaugurated by Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister for Power and Industry & Commerce. V Subramaniam, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India participated in the summit, in which discussions/presentations in the areas of Implementation of Renewable Energy Power Projects, Coal Bed Bethane, New Energy Options through Conventional Sources, Clean Development Mechanism, Hydrogen Option was made by various experts from IREDA, NEDFi, MNRE, ASEB, UNDP. The Summit had a special session on Coal Bed Methane in which presentations were made by NN Gautam, Adviser, UNDP and Chariman, Coal Group of India Energy Forum. Douglas Kelly and Syed Hashimi of Bright Star trading, Houston, USA deliberated on Hydrogen Option.
