Northeast India, often described as the country's Wild West ravaged by separatist armed movements and ethnic strife, is in search of a new USP to promote its landscape, rich bio-diversity, wildlife and culture. Last week, at a Northeast Tourism Summit in Shillong, participants found themselves bracing for heated exchange of outbursts while discussing a suitable nomenclature for a proposed tourism body for the Northeast. The Summit recommended creation of an autonomous forum for tourism promotion in the Northeast with a suitable nomenclature for the proposed body which describes its geographic and cultural domain.
