Not a drop to drink

Call it an irony of fate but it is a paradoxical fact that the Himalayan region is today facing an acute drinking water scarcity that is aggravating day by day thanks to drying up of rivulets and springs. Despite having as many as 13 major rivers including the Ganga and Satluj, almost the entire Himalayan belt is in dire need of drinking water supply with women trekking miles together to fulfill their water needs. The government is yet to develop a viable system to provide potable water to the people on the hilltops. The only thing that is not visible is the enormity of the situation just because the area doesn't ever come under the media glare unlike the plains.
