The national conference of State Ministers of Environment and Forests which was held at Coimbatore concluded with a call for doubling the allocation for afforestation under the Plan outlay. The investment, it was noted, has been less than one per cent of the Plan outlay in various periods and was sought to be increased to at least two per cent.Under the National Forestry Action Programme, it was envisaged that the total area under forest cover in the country would increase by 33 per cent over a 20 year period....(Editorial)
