The Mumbai Pollution Control Board has served a notice on the Brihan-mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to forthwith close five storm water drains which continue to pollute the Powai lake. The notice was issued after an inspection of the lake by M.P. Kirit Somaiya and president of Save Powai Lake campaign along with Sardar Tara Singh, MLA and others on May 26. Mr Somaiya observed despite several reminders the five drains (Powarwadi nallah, Hiranandani nallah, Dhawani petrol pump nallah, Tirandaz nallah and Niti nallah) were still found polluting the lake. Now, deputy chief engineer N.C. Shah, (drainage) has assured Mr Somaiya that work on closing these drains would be completed by June 5.
