The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre and others on a PIL seeking disclosure of the scientific data regarding the presence of harmful and hazardous substances in processed food in general and beverages in particular. A bench of Justices K.G. Balakrishanan and D.K. Jain also sought replies from the ministries of food processing industries, commerce and industry, agriculture, environment and forests, chemical and fertilisers, law and the Bureau of Indian Standards. The bench tagged the petition filed by social worker Tejinder Singh Brar with the pending PIL, in which a direction has been sought for disclosing the chemical contents of soft drinks on the bottles.
