Channabasappa Kombali of Haveri in Karnataka has adopted an innovative approach for recharging ground water in his village. Recharging of ground water is a much discussed topic these days. Workshops and seminars are being conducted across the country to create awareness about the importance of water conservation and recharge through different technologies. The Government has also initiated many programmes such as watershed development, desiltation of tanks, construction of percolation tanks and farm ponds as a means to recharge groundwater. However, the results have not been very encouraging due to lack of participation and commitment from the communities.
