R KRISHNA DAS Raipur, 6 March Willing to adopt a lion, tiger or a bear! Please contact Chhattisgarh government's forest department for further information. An increase in the expenses to maintain the wild animals has prompted the department to come up with a plan to enable people to act as "parents" of the animals locked in different zoos in the state. But it is waiting for people to come forward to share the great idea. "If interested people come forward with the proposal to adopt Wild animals kept in the zoos, the state government will seriously consider the scheme, as it can provide better care to the animals," the state's forest minister Vikram Usendi said. The department has in fact drafted a rough plan that offers benefits for the people planning to adopt animals. The strategy is in line with the practice introduced by neighbouring Madhya Pradesh government to allow people to adopt animals in the state-run zoos, sources said. "The guardian of the animal will be entitled to visit sanctuaries in the state at the expense of the department," a senior forest official said.
