Government plans to dump dry waste from Sonsodo to the KTC bus stand for land filling came in for strong opposition from the BJP, even as the Margao Municipal Council floated a tender of Rs 17 lakh for transportation of the waste. BJP's Fatorda MLA, Damu Naik on Sunday warned the Congress-led government of an agitation if the Margao Municipal Council went ahead with the proposed plan, saying the people of Fatorda will oppose the move tooth and nail. Addressing a press conference, Naik expressed surprise that the government has gone ahead with the plan and has issued a tender without taking him into confidence. Coming down heavily on the KTC Chairman Reginaldo Lourenco for offering KTC land for dumping of the Sonsodo waste, Naik said Reginaldo can very well take the waste to his Curtorim constituency. He said the government should understand that there's a different set of procedure for transporting of waste. "Today, I spoke to the Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao and asked why I, being an MLA from Fatorda, was not taken into confidence. The Chief Minister was not available in the city', he said. The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Chief Monica Dias has already raised her strong opposition to the plan and has asked the government to scrap the proposal. Meanwhile, Naik, in the presence of city BJP leader, Rupesh Mahatme, said district Collector G P Naik has no moral right to continue in the chair if he cannot address grievances of the people. "Naik has not acted on our complaint over land filling at Fatorda. He is doing nothing into our complaint despite occupying the top office', he added.
