IF you want to have round-the-clock electricity, then you may install domestic wind turbines in your household. Coimbatore-based International Consultant and Management Services (ICMS) will provide the technology for installation of ICMS-UE series domestic wind turbines. The turbines will convert wind energy into electrical power for domestic use. "The machine comes under four different models namely 600 watt, 1500, 3300 and 4200 watt, all useful for Indian standard house utensils and costs between Rs 80,000 and Rs 3 lakh,'' said R C Ravi, director of ICMS. Speaking to reporters here on Friday , he said the machine had to be installed 30 feet above the ground floor, where the average wind speed would be around 2.5 metre per second. "The actual requirement for the wind turbine to rotate is 1.8 metre per second wind speed. The wind energy generator's life time is 20 years and need to be changed thereafter,'' he said. A 600-watt producing capacity wind turbine, which costs around Rs 1 lakh, can generate 18 units a day . The company has already started installing wind turbines in Coimbatore and has sold 13 machines. Ravi said the installation cost was a one time investment and the government gave 50 per cent subsidy. For government undertaking schools, colleges and institutions, government gives 75 per cent subsidy .
