NREGS evokes positive response in Nalbari dist

The newly introduced National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) has succeeded in getting positive response in Barkshetri development block areas in Nalbari district especially among the labour class people. In this minority-dominated development block which has three gaon panchayats in char areas, work of about Rs 4.50 crore are under way and more than 2000 labourers are getting daily work in those projects. The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Barkshetri G Adil informed this correspondent that all total 25 projects are going on in the areas and the people of this block are more enthusiastic to do work under this scheme. The Revenue Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed recently visited the on going projects to take stock of the progress. The minister also inaugurated a new project at Narayanpur at a cost of Rs 17.68 lakh for developing a fishery with plantation in its surrounding. Addressing the meeting the minister stated that the block will get another Rs 6 crore for undertaking new projects in NREGS. The Minister and the deputy commissioner also inspected the fishery project near Kaldi farm, road construction at Garuabaha among others. The Minister and the deputy commissioner expressed satisfaction as some educated youth come forward to do work in NREGS in the area. During the inspection, BDO G Adil junior engineers Arup Ahmed and Bhagawan Kakati were also present.
