NTPC seeks government help for land acquisition

BHUBANESWAR: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Wednesday sought the cooperation of the State Government for land acquisition for its proposed supper thermal power projects at Darlipali in Sundargarh district and Gajmara in Dhenkanal. Two senior executives of NTPC, regional executive director Kaushal Kishore Sharma and executive director (Corporate Planning) NK Sharma met Minister of State for Energy Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and requested him for appointment of special land acquisition officers for the new projects. They also requested for notification under section-IV of the Land Acquisition Act and invocation of emergency clause under Section-7 and 17 for land acquisition. The national thermal power major which proposed to set up 1600 MW (2 X 800 MW) power project in stage-I at Darlipali required 2800 acres of land and it received administrative approval for the project on June 3. The company conducted gram sabhas on April 24 and 25. The company officers requested the Minister to facilitate for grant of no objection certificate (NOC) from the gram sabha required under the Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act. The national PSU which has planned to set up another super thermal project at Gajmara will come up with two units of 800 MW each in the first phase. The NTPC officers informed the Minister that survey work has been completed over 1385 acres of land. The Water Resources Department has committed for supply of 160 cusec of water for each of the two projects. The Minister was requested by the NTPC officers to expedite the process of finalisation of the location for construction of weirs on Tel and Udanti rivers. They also discussed the stage-III expansion of the Talcher Thermal Power project which is dedicated to the state. NTPC proposed to add capacity by installing two more units of 660 MW capacity each. The two new units will be set up within the existing area of TTPS. They further informed the Minister that NTPC is planning to go for bulk tendering of the two new project in August. The Minister assured all cooperation from the Government to the new projects which will share 50 percent of the generated power to the state. Revenue Secretary RK Sharma and senior officers of Energy department were also present.
