NTPC to establish 4000 MW power plant in Chhattarpur

Chhattarpur: Power utility National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will establish a 4,000 MW capacity power plant on the banks of Cane river in the district at a project cost of Rs 20,000 crore. Chhattarpur District Collector E Ramesh Kumar had already provided details on 3,000 acres of land to the company for setting up the project. Moreover, NTPC General Manager Pradeep Bhaskar Behera has also carried out a survey of the region where the power plant is to be established, official sources here said. On completion of the survey, NTPC would forward a proposal to the Union Energy Ministry for approval. The power utility will need to spend Rs 5 crore per megawatt of power to be generated from the proposed unit. The NTPC would spend Rs 20,000 crore during the first phase of the project in which six units would be established with each generating 210 MW of electricity. The company would subsequently establish two more units with each generating 500 MW of electricity. A new railway line would be laid near the project for ensuring adequate supply of coal. The power plant would be ultra modern and the water used in the plant would be treated and released back into the river. The power plant would require 40,000 tonnes of coal per day.
