Gram Sabha members of Nuvem village almost came to blows on the controversial Regional Plan as a consensus eluded the villagers on the village plan. While some villagers blamed the village level committee for preparing a fault plan and called for its scrapping, the Committee called for intermediation from government agencies such as the Town and Country Planning Department to remove misconceptions about the plan and iron out the differences. At a meeting held on Sunday to discuss the plan, differences between the pro and anti plan groups was clearly evident and came to the fore time and again. Heated discussion ensued between those supporting the plan prepared by the village level committee and those opposed to it, with members nearly coming to blows. The meeting was later adjourned by the Acting Sarpanch Menino Mascarenhas, with a promise to call a joint meeting of the Panchayat body and the village level committee to rectify the anomalies and discrepancies in the plan before convening another special gram sabha meeting to finalise the plan. The village panchayat has already asked the government to grant 30 days extention of time to prepare the plan. Sarpanch Mascarenhas later told newsmen that the gram sabha members are not at all happy with the plan of the village level committee.
