The Odisha state government will submit a detailed report to the Union Government by October 16 on the losses due to cyclone Hudhud. This was informed by Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra on Tuesday. Accordingly, the Collectors of the concerned districts have been asked to send their reports to the State Government in two days. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the Chief Secretary to prepare the damage report soon so that it can be sent to the Centre. Patnaik said a total of 2,33,271 people had been evacuated to 2,029 shelter homes. The Special Relief Commissioner said that out of the eight cyclone-hit districts in the southern region, four districts, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada, have been worst affected. While there was not much damage in Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts, massive uprooting of trees was reported from Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Nabarangpur, he said. As the wind speed was about 100 kmph when the Hudhud passed Odisha, there has been substantial damage to electrical infrastructures, Principal Secretary Energy, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra said. For the people in rural and interior parts of the four worst-hit districts, power supply would be restored in three to four days.
