The Delhi Development Authority, which is entrusted with the task of preserving the heritage of Delhi, had constructed its Officers' Club at Siri Fort in South Delhi in violation of the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. However, despite the blatant violation of the Act the building - which is proposed to be used in connection with the forthcoming Commonwealth Games-2010 -continues to stand near the Siri Fort wall as efforts are being made to protect the interests of the Officers' Club members. The Authority is now set to discuss the future of the proposed site against the backdrop of a letter written by the Director-General of Archaeological Survey of India on May 19 this year in which it was stated that the Minister of Culture had directed that the building be taken over by ASI without any delay and DDA had been asked to hand over the building.
