Major refineries in the country are going all out to meet a September 1 deadline to bring down sulphur content in diesel (perhaps the most visibly polluting of all fuels ) to 0.25 per cent, from an average of 1 per cent now. High sulphur content in the air causes extensive damage to lungs as also a host of cardio-vasular diseases.
