The registra tion numbers of every other autorickshaw in Delhi is DLR, DHR, DIR, DAR, DL1R, DL1RA and DL1RB. These were the autos that were licensed before 1992. Then came DL1RC and DL1RD. According to a Supreme Court ruling, autos older than eight years would have to be scrapped. They would be replaced by DL1RE/F and DL1RC/D series. However, auto-rickshaws were scrapped and replaced by new CNG ones, but even today one can easily see auto-rickshaws plying on Delhi roads with old registration numbers. Even though these auto-rickshaws are equipped with CNG, their bodies are however weak and not fit for plying on long routes. These old rickshaws are also prone to accidents.
