The process of eviction of people occupying forest lands has gained momentum in Kodagu district, Karnataka. The forest department issued notices to those encroaching the land following the Supreme Court Order that these persons should be evicted before May 2003. Encroachment of forest land is a matter of serious concern. Those who have encroached upon forest land in these areas have settled here for many years and cultivated farms and plantations to earn their livelihood.
