Today, one of every 10 people in the world is 60 or older, and by 2050 it will be one in five, according to a UN study on global population and ageing made public on Thursday. The older population is itself ageing, and currently the oldest of the old - the group 80 or older - is the fastest-growing of the elderly, making up 12 per cent of those ever 60, the study said.
