MCD Commissioner A K Nigam along with departmental representatives have admitted that only 36 per cent of silt was actually removed from the city's drains before the last monsoon in the Petitions Committee report compiled by MLA S C Vats. A departmental representative told the committee that for the year 2005-06, an estimated 8,08,689.64 cubic meters of silt was required to be cleared while only 2,92,798.35 cubic meters of silt was cleared.
