Criticising the civic administrators of the Kochi Corporation for their “failure” in various sectors of urban governance, the CPI(M)-led Opposition is planning to present an alternative plan for solid waste management in the city. The power-from-waste project proposed at Brahmapuram is not a feasible one considering the high humidity in Kochi, said K.J. Jacob, leader of the CPI(M) in the council.
The local body had been toying with the unfeasible idea for quite some time. The CPI(M) has announced its own project for the decentralised processing of waste at its source. The alternative plan will be presented at the council during the budget discussion. If implemented, it would save the local body Rs. 10 crore, which could be used for other development projects, said Mr. Jacob.
The CPI(M) leader said that the budget proposal was an attempt to dupe the people of the city. The civic administrators lacked a sense of reality and vision for formulating and implementing projects that could benefit the city life. The Deputy Mayor, who presented the budget, was incapable of presenting the proposals listed in the budget speech, he alleged.
The alternative plan will save the local body Rs. 10 crore, says CPI(M) leader
