Order on catalytic convertors put off

  • 31/05/1998

The government has postponed for two months its decision to make mandatory the fitment of catalytic convertors in four wheeler petrol-driven vehicles registered on first sale in more than 40 cities. The decision, which was notified by the Union surface transport ministry in February , was to come into effect from June 1. However, it has been postponed till August 1. This has been done for two reasons-- the automobile industry sought more time and the cities which were to be covered by the decision still do not have an adequate number of unleaded petrol outlets. This includes cities, Aizawl, Indore, Bhopal and Gurgaon.
