Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna ended a week of suspense and gave Ulhasnagar its reprieve, signing a government ordinance to regularise many of the suburbs 855 illegal buildings before he left on a week-long trip to Australia. The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation must now continue demolitions till the state government officially informs the court of the ordinance. The earliest that can be is January 24, the date for the next court hearing.
