The harvesting of organic paddy cultivated by the Vadakkencherry Padashekhara Samithi was performed here on Thursday. The Vadakkencherry Padashekhara Samithi consisting of 40 farmers had grown paddy in a 75 acre area. This was the second harvest festival being held here. Last year organic paddy cultivation was experimented in the paddy fields here with the co-operation of the Vadakkencherry grama panchayat and the Department of Agriculture. The Tiruvalla-based Poabs group provided the technical assistance. They have also entered into a buy back agreement with the farmers. They purchase the paddy at 12.50 per km from the farmers which is slightly higher than the procurement price of Rs 10 per km announced by the government. The 75 acre farmland had by the second year secured the
