Cash-strapped Orissa has decided to sell surplus government land to tide over its current financial crisis. Sources said that the Government has identified 17,667 acres of unused surplus land of which nearly 7,000 acres may be sold off. However, with mounting suspicion that politicians might make a killing, the move is likely to spark off a controversy. What the Government proposes to sell is mostly in the shape of agricutlural land, fishery or cattle rearing farms. Some of it had been leased out for setting up cold storages. The Government hopes it would generate enough cash to make good the revenue deficits of the State.
