Low literacy rate among tribals has become a stumbling block to link them with the mainstream in Orissa. Even after five decades of independence, tribals are living in ignorance. The light of education has not reached them. This can be gauged from the fact that about 90 per cent of the tribals are not involved in the literacy programme.
