Doori is a tiny village in Dharwad taluk in Karnataka with about 300 families. Agriculture is the main occupation in this village situated a few kilometres from the Goa road. Doori has a pond named after it. Built in the 1970s and spread over three kilometres, the Doori kere is the only source of water in the village. For a few years, farmers in the village used the pond water to irrigate their fields. But soon there was no water in the pond as it became muddy and filled with waste material because of the village's proximity to the forest. Hence there was no water for the cattle or the fields. The farmers, unable to desilt the pond, switched over to dryland agriculture, which resulted in a drop in their income. Residents of Doori, a small village in Dharwad taluk got together to desilt and save the only water source in their village.
