WHILE the THANE municipal corporation is yet to complete the pre-monsoon repair and cleaning work, the news from an agricultural college that Thane may get over 100 per cent rainfall this year, would increase the woes of Thanekars. According to sources, a Pune-based agricultural college has carried out a study with regard to the forthcoming monsoons and has claimed that Thane will receive 102 per cent of rainfall this monsoon. According to the met department, normal rainfall is between five per cent and 100 per cent. With Thane expected to receive two per cent more than normal, its residents and the TMC needs to be prepared for any situation. The only question that would rise in the mind of Thaneites would be whether the civic administration is ready to tackle the forthcoming monsoons. With the last two years witnessing heavy rains when for two days, Thane came to a standstill, one cannot blame the way people would think. Hopefully, the TMC does a good job tackling the rains this year. Meanwhile, Mayor Smita Indulkar, Civic Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre, Standing Committee Chairman Bhaiyasaheb Indise, Deputy Mayor Ashok Bhoir along with several corporators from various wards came together at the standing committee hall to attend a meeting. The meeting was specially held to discuss the disaster management plans. With the monsoon picture becoming clearer, Corporators raised their voice against the pending pre-monsoon work in their respective wards and stressed to complete it before the onset on monsoon.
