Assam has 19,21,563 registered unemployed persons, with Kamrup accounting for the highest number at 3,43,862 followed by Sivasagar and Nagaon with 1,93,587 and 1,48,392 respectively. The figures include 2,24,125 graduates, 17,209 postgraduates, 2,438 engineering graduates, 3,39,227 higher secondary pass-outs, 6,87,461 matriculates, 17,784 ITI-trainees, 5,659 diploma-holders, 923 agriculture graduates, 353 veterinary graduates and 3,702 with other qualifications. NC Hills with 20,818 and Hailakandi with 23,277 were the districts having the least number of unemployed persons, followed by Karbi Anglong with 25,584. Revealing this while answering a question from Kamal Singh Narzary of the BPF in the Assembly today, Labour and Employment Minister Prithivi Majhi said that while there was no provision for directly employing candidates by the Employment Exchange, it sends lists of candidates to the employee agencies as per relevant rules, besides arranging for counselling for the unemployed for interviews.
