There has been an alarming increase in encroachments in Himachal Pradesh forests over the past few years. While forest settlement operations started more than a decade ago to end discrepancies in the forest area in records of the Forest Department and the Revenue Department, are progressing at snail's pace, cases of encroachments are rising steadily.
