Over Rs. 9,000 m to rehabilitate irrigation projects destroyed by Tigers

The Government has allocated Rs. 9,104 million to rehabilitate irrigation projects destroyed by terrorists in the Eastern Province.
This was disclosed during discussions under the Nagenahira Navodaya Irrigation Projects Progress Review Programme of Kanthale and Trincomalee conducted under Irrigation Minister and Deputy Government Whip Jayatissa Ranaweera's patronage, recently.
The Minister said the entire Province is seeing massive development after the humanitarian mission started in Mavilaru by the Government last year.
Speaking on the progress of irrigation projects in Mavilaru, Alleweva, Janaranjana and other projects in the East, he said President Mahinda Rajapaksa was always committed for peace and development in the East.
President Rajapaksa and Presidential Advisor and MP Basil Rajapaksa are doing their best to create a peaceful environment for all to live together.
Easterners have already endorsed the Government's policies by providing a massive mandate at the last Provincial Council Election, Ranaweera said.
Around 12,000 farmers' plots of 17,000 acres in Alla-Kanthle will be provided water through the Janaranjana irrigation project.
The Government has allocated Rs. 53 million for this project, he said.
The Government is engaged in renovating the Mavilaru anicut by spending nearly Rs. 200 million.
