The Ozone Cell set up under the Ministry of Environment and Forests has sought Goa government's cooperation in protecting the ozone layer by taking steps for phasing out Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) utilised largely by industry and commerce. The Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer was signed on September 16, 1987 to protect this ozone layer in the atmosphere and India a signatory of this protocol is now active in its implementation since 1992.
