The UN environment Programme is launching a $7million assistance plan for developing countries to help them phase out ozone-depleting substances (OZS). The initiative, launched in Montreal at the 27th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer, comprises a number of steps which will significantly reduce the use of chloro-fluorocarbons (CFCs) around the world, UNEP Director-General Klaus Toepfer said.
