The ozone layer in the northern hemisphere's upper atmosphere is thicker than it has been for a long time, reports the German Aerospace Research Centre (DLR). "These findings come as a surprise. The ozone layer has not been this thick since the 1980s at least," said nuclear physicist Michael Bittner, commenting on stratospheric measurements taken by the European ERS-2 satellite.
