Pacific Atoll to be cleared of deadly weapons

Deadly nerve and chemical weapons stored on a remote Pacific atoll have just about all gone and the United States is set to return the highly secret Johnston atoll to its vast flocks of sea-birds. Despite strong Pacific political objection, tens of thousands of mortar shells, artillery shells, rockets and bombs containing mustard gas and sarin nerve agents have been stacked alongside the island's runway, awaiting destruction, since 1990.
