The Cunchelim Action Committee (CAC), residents of Cunchelim, Ward I of the Mapuca Municipal Council (MMC), have reiterated their opposition to plans by the MMC to acquire land for the proposed garbage disposal site in their area. Incidentally, the Cunchelim Communidade has also opposed the move to acquire its land for the purpose. The CAC noted that they had written letters putting forth their grievances to various authorities, including MMC chairperson and chief Officer, the local MLA, chief minister, minister of water resources, directorate of municipalities, the urban development minister, the forest department, the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the North Goa Planning Development Authority. They had also staged a protest to the MMC three months ago, warning the council to desist from acquiring land to use it as dumpyard of Mapusa.
