In a move to set aside conflicting claims by land-owning agencies in Delhi over the status of water bodies, the High Court directed that a committee be constituted which would report to the court. The petitioner, Vinod Kumar Jain, said there were 794 water bodies in the city as per latest estimates. The committee would comprise Delhi government Divisional Commissioner, DDA Commissioner (Planning and landscape), a DJB member, MCD Additional Commissioner, CGWB chief and a member of Delhi Tourism Corporation. Petitioner's counsel Arvind Sah said of the 794 water bodies, 101 water bodies have been allotted by the authorities for other uses, 20 are in the process of being given away and 141 have been encroached.
