Paradox in child labour policies

  • 11/10/2002

All governments speak about the need for eradication of child labour. But, the irony is that the Industrial Disputes Act says that child labourers could be allowed to work only up to 7 pm in any industry! Does this not speak about scope given by the government itself for employing child labourers? This point was raised by the legal faculty of the National academy of legal studies and research. Prof M Sridhar at a seminar on 'Child Labour and role of academicians' held by the social work department of St. Francis college for women in Hyderabad.
