The European Commission agreed to ask the European Court of Justice to impose a fine of more than $108m on France over its refusal to annul legislation banning women from working at night. If approved by the court, the fine will grow by more than 142,000 euro for each day that France fails to end the ban. According to the Commission, the ban violates European Union laws on equal treatment for women in the workplace.
