The interim government is formulating a parking policy strictly prohibiting on-street parking and keeping a provision for high penalties for flouting the rules to ensure smooth traffic in the capital. The policy to be finalised in a month also aims to bring discipline in the transport system of the city, sources in the communications ministry said. The ministry has already drafted the policy to be finalised in consultation with various stakeholders, they said. The draft policy recommends that places should be designated for parking and charges will be higher than normal in areas where the parking demand is high or at places where parking hampers smooth traffic.
