Goa Pradesh Youth Congress, while welcoming the resolution of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) to cancel and revoke land allotments to SEZ companies in Goa, has ridiculed the Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar for refusing to appreciate Chief Minister Digambar Kamat's decision to scrap SEZ from Goa. GPYC chief Sankalp Amonkar said CM deserved kudos for his latest decision to cancel land allotment to SEZ promoters. "This is ample proof that the government is serious about its decision to scrap SEZs and that its commitment to respect the aspirations of the people of Goa is beyond doubt', he said. In a press note issued here, Amonkar said Parrikar who, as per his statement in a section of the press, has refused to give credit to the CM for the decision to scrap SEZ, should recollect his "double talks' on the issue. During his tenure of the BJP-led government, Parrikar had strongly supported the setting up of SEZs in Goa, Amonkar said. "His links with SEZ-developers were exposed when during the second futile attempt to bring down the Kamat government, he reportedly had a meeting with a SEZ promoters in Mumbai and allegedly promised to revive the projects', he alleged in a press note issued here. Amonkar said Parrikar's present state of utter frustration stems from "the quiet but effective steps' that Digambar Kamat has been taking on various issued like SEZ, Regional Plan, etc. His fear that a good and people-centric Regional Plan may be actually put in place by Kamat has led to his irresponsible statements on Task Force, he stated.
