BOKARO (Jharkhand): Union chemical, fertiliser and steel minister, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan today announced plans for setting up of a 12 million ton greenfield steel plant in Jharkhand, but only if the iron ore dispute is settled with the Jharkhand state government. "The steel ministry is keen to set up the 12 million ton greenfield steel plant. It can be three times that of the present Bokaro Steel Plant. But, the entire project which has been envisaged, is getting delayed everyday due to the dispute over Chiria mines. The steel ministry and Jharkhand government had agreed to share 1 billion tons of iron ore each from the Chiria mines. The state government is yet to respond to the proposal. We had a couple of meetings in the PMO, but the matter still remains unsettled. A dispute in this matter is also pending with Jharkhand High Court', said Mr Paswan, while addressing a gathering in Bokaro, in Jharkhand. The minister was delivering his address in presence of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. "I appeal to the Jharkhand state government to expedite the clearance of the Chiria mines dispute. SAIL has come to this resurgent stage after facing a lot of problems. Production of steel is rising by 10 per cent every year in the country and domestic consumption is rising by 13 per cent. There is no other alternative than to increase our steel production', said Mr Paswan.
