Hyderabad Sept. 18: To offset the carbon footprint for its meeting here, the Pacific Asia Tourism Association (Pata) has decided to plant 30,000 trees at various places in the city. The state government will support Pata in the green drive. A carbon footprint is the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gas produced. It is measured in terms of estimated carbon dioxide output. The number of trees required to offset the carbon footprint for the Pata meeting, which has delegates from dozens of countries, could be anything between 20,000 and 30,000. At the Pata meet, several pro-environment measures have been taken up to offset the impact. Only essential items have been placed in the bags of the delegates to minimise the use of paper, an official said. Electronic signage such as plasma video screens are being used throughout the Hyderabad International Convention Centre to reduce the use of disposable signage. Plastic bottles are banned and recyclable cups are being used. Recycle bins have been placed for the delegates.
