With hardly two years left for Karnataka to utilise its share of the Krishna waters as per the Bachawat Award, the Karnataka Government seems to be training all its energies to complete the Alamatti Dam of the Upper Krishna Project, the mainstay for the State to protect its share. The State may not be in a position to mobilise Rs. 5,000 crores to Rs. 6,000 crores needed in the next two years. But the Government will have to tighten its belt and if necessary divert funds from other sectors to irrigation to take the dam to a safe stage.
