Wheat crisis in southern Punjab has compelled the people to use substandard flour, resulting in different stomach diseases. 25,000 tons imported wheat has reached in Multan but due to its poor quality, the officials of food department have refused to unload it. Besides, the flourmills have also refused to purchase this imported wheat. In some cities of southern Punjab, due to ban on the procurement of wheat from the open market, the wheat price has also decreased from Rs 625, compelling the farmers to sell their wheat at Rs 580. On the other hand, even after the passage of a week, no procurement has been started yet in the centres. Copyright Business Recorder, 2008
