Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Pradyut Bordoloi stressed on the need for greater involvement of the public in forest conservation measures. The Minister was addressing the 53rd passing out ceremony of trainees at the Assam Forest School, Jalukbari, in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Bordoloi emphasized that Participatory Forest Management must be included as a part of the course content at the School, keeping in mind the need for greater co-operation of the public in conserving forest ecology." The demand for forest resources of the people must also be fulfilled. We cannot think of conserving forests merely by banning illegal felling of trees," he added, while stating that the principle of sustainable forest management must also be included in the course curriculum at the school here.
