DH News Service, Chikmagalur:
Benefits of dairying will be made available to the people of all 5 taluks in the district within the next two years, said Deputy Commissioner R Narayanaswamy.
At present, dairying is done only in two taluks. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has agreed to expand its network to all taluks, he said after inaugurating an Entrepreneurship Motivation Programme organised by Karnataka State Finance Corporation and Industries and Commerce department at the District Industries Centre here on Wednesday.
Since biologically sensitive Western Ghats come under the district, the region is open only for those industries which are environment-friendly. There is vast scope for mini hydel power projects. Entrepreneurs should think in this direction, he observed. Only a few people are into trade and business in the district. Hence, progress is not taking place at an expected rate. Establishment of more industries are inevitable here, the DCnoted.
KSFC Mangalore division Deputy Chief Manager Ramesh B Dandin said the Corporation has reserved Rs 4 crore for the district to be given in the form of loans towards the establishment of industries.
The officials of the local branches are permitted to give loans up to Rs 30 lakh. Loans are being given to the members of SC and ST at 4 per cent interest, he informed.
