Nearly 400 activists braved monsoon rains to join a street protest against the government's plan to cut trees in one of Dhaka's largest parks to build an international conference centre. "Save the trees, our good friends," the demonstrators chanted marching through central Dhaka streets around Osmany Uddayan, the park chosen for the 5,000-seat centre to be built for the Non-Aligned Movement Summit meeting in 2001.
